Primus Wafer Paper 110 Jaar

Primus Wafer Paper Celebrates 110 Years This year, we are proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 110 years of Primus Wafer Paper. For more than a century, generations of employees, customers, suppliers, and partners have been part of our journey. It is a story that began with a small family business in Zaandam and grew into a company that serves customers around the world. Along the way, much has changed, but the values that define us — craftsmanship, quality, and dedication — have remained the same. As we mark this special anniversary, we take a moment to look back on where we came from, appreciate everyone who helped us get here, and look ahead to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.

Primus Wafer Paper Celebrates 110 Years

This year marks a special milestone for Primus Wafer Paper: our 110th anniversary. It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our history, the people who have shaped our company, and the journey we have taken together.

Our story began in 1916 in Zaandam, the Netherlands. The Pel brothers, who at the time operated a woodworking factory, decided to venture into something entirely different: the production of wafer paper. What started as a small family business on the banks of the River Zaan grew into a company with a rich heritage and a strong presence in the region.

Like many family businesses, our journey has not always been without challenges. There have been changes, new ideas, and at times different visions for the future. Yet it is precisely this entrepreneurial spirit, resilience, and determination to keep moving forward that have shaped Primus into the company it is today.

A great deal has changed over the past 110 years. Our factory has relocated, our processes have evolved, and our market has expanded far beyond the Netherlands. Today, we proudly supply customers all around the world.

At the same time, the heart of our business remains remarkably unchanged. We still produce wafer paper from potato starch — a simple, honest product that has been trusted and enjoyed for generations. That commitment to simplicity and quality continues to guide everything we do.

Perhaps what defines Primus most after 110 years is that, despite our growth, we have remained a company built on people. People whose craftsmanship, dedication, and pride are reflected in every product we make.

This special anniversary was also a moment to celebrate together as a team. To mark the occasion, all employees enjoyed a delicious Surinamese meal, kindly prepared by Restaurant RiaZ. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, share stories, and celebrate the people behind Primus Wafer Paper.

During the celebration, our Managing Director, Wouter Smits, gave an inspiring speech reflecting on both the history and the future of Primus Wafer Paper. He spoke about the entrepreneurial spirit and resilience that have carried the company through more than a century of change, while also sharing his vision and enthusiasm for the years ahead.

As we celebrate this milestone, we look back on our history with gratitude and forward to the future with confidence and enthusiasm. We would like to thank all our employees, customers, suppliers, and partners who have been part of our story. This anniversary belongs to all of you.

And our story is far from over. The next chapter is already waiting to be written.
